Holiday concert season to begin Sunday

Ironwood — The annual holiday concert season for local schools returns this month.

The Ironwood Area School District kicks off festivities with the Luther L. Wright High School band concert on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Historic Ironwood Theatre.

The Luther L. Wright elementary K-4 Christmas assembly will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 in the school gym. The fifth and sixth grade students will have their Christmas concert at 7 p.m. the following day, Dec. 16, also at the school.

The Ironwood middle school and high school students and the Accent! show choir will perform at the Ironwood Theatre on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

Bessemer

The Bessemer Area Schools Christmas band concert for grades 5-12 will be Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. in the A.D. Johnston High School gym.

The K-6 winter vocal concert is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 1 p.m., also in the high school gym.

On Dec. 18, the district will hold a choir concert with performances by students in grades 5-12, again at the high school gym.

Wakefield-Marenisco

The Wakefield-Marenisco School District will host two concerts on Dec. 14. The elementary students (K-6) will perform at 1 p.m., while the junior and senior high school students will perform at 7 p.m.

Hurley

The Hurley School District has several performances planned throughout the month. On Wednesday, the Hurley School Singers, and sixth grade, junior high and senior high school choirs will perform at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium.

The winter band concert will take place on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

The younger elementary students will perform in the school gym on Dec. 21. The pre-K through second grade students will perform at 9 a.m. and the students in grades 3-4 and the Hurley School Singers will perform at 10 a.m.

Elsewhere

The Mercer School District will have a winter solstice concert at 6 p.m. on Dec. 15.

The Ewen-Trout Creek School District will also have a K-12 concert on Dec. 15. The time is yet to be determined.

The Watersmeet Township School District will have a K-12 concert on Dec. 22 at 6 p.m.

Ontonagon Area School District officials were still forming plans for a holiday concert at press time.
