The Midwest Snocross Series scheduled at Mt. Zion at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood has been moved to Salem, Wisconsin. Pending confirmation from the local ambulance service, the races will now be held at Digger Doug Gust’s facility in Salem on Saturday and Sunday.
The decision was announced to the Daily Globe in an Sunday email.
Race advisor Rudy Grbavcich said that the venue change was due to a pump failure that prevented Mt. Zion from producing artificial snow.
Owing to supply chain issues, it was unclear when the parts to repair the pump would arrive and the weather forecast indicated that there would not be enough natural snow to make a proper track, he said.
Grbavcich said the deadline to register for the race at Mt. Zion was Dec. 3 and the organizers were not ready to commit to the venue because of these circumstances. He said that they decided to move the race to Salem because southeast Wisconsin has received plenty of snowfall.
“This is not how we would have liked to kick off the Midwest Snocross Series, but are so appreciative that Doug was able to have a race on such short notice,” the Midwest Snocross Series website says.
The race was previously planned for Dec. 4-5 at Mt. Zion, but was postponed until this Saturday and Sunday due to safety concerns and lack of snow.
The website says that all entries in the race at Mt. Zion will be transferred to Digger Doug Gust’s facility. If racers cannot make the schedule change, they can let the organizers know and they can move their entry to the Hartford, Wisconsin, race on Dec. 18-19.
