BESSEMER, Mich. - Kathleen "Kathy" Ann Rooni, 84, of Ironwood Township, passed away on Jan. 25, 2022, at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital.
Kathy was born Sept. 22, 1937, to Enrica (Federizzi) and John DeFerro in Hurley, Wisconsin. She graduated from J. E. Murphy High School and married Gerald "Jerry" Rooni on June 15, 1957, in Pine City, Minnesota.
She attended Gogebic Community College and Northland College, where she graduated with a teaching degree.
Kathy taught elementary education in various Ironwood schools for more than 29 years and often recited endearing stories of her students. She enjoyed reading books, painting and wood carving. Kathy treasured the companionship of her little dogs, always asking "Where's my dog?"
Kathy was preceeded in death by her husband, Jerry; son, Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Dennis Blomberg.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Ann (DeFerro) Blomberg; brother, John DeFerro; son, Michael; daughter, Marcy (Robert) Koivisto; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Troy, Jacob, Natalie, Peter, Catherine and Marissa; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be planned at Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township in the spring of 2022.
