IRONWOOD, Mich. - Katherine A. "Mama" Dabb, 61, of Ironwood passed away on Feb. 3, 2022, at her home in Ironwood.
She was born on June 29, 1960, in Ironwood, the daughter of William O. and Elizabeth (DeMario) Ketola. She attended Central Grade School and graduated at Luther L. Wright High School in 1978. She then attended Gogebic Community College and obtained a degree as an LPN. She worked at Gogebic Medical Care, Josephson's and Hautamaki's nursing homes, Ironwood Plastics, and as a nurse for Dr. Jeffery Miller.
Katherine married Michael J. Dabb on Oct. 29, 1982.
Katherine's family was her most precious gift, and her grandchildren were her entire world. Mama was a great hockey mom!
She loved hunting and fishing with her father growing up. She's in Heaven now waiting for spring so she can go fishing.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Michael; son, William (Jessica Cerv); daughter, Heather (Jeremy Giesau); grandson, Conor Giesau; granddaughters, Lilyana Dabb, and Adalia Enright; mother, Elizabeth Aijala; brother-in-law, Kenn (Gerilynn) Dabb; aunts, uncles and cousins; nephews, Brandon and Ryan; and best friends who were like siblings, Barbi Madden and Pat Sullivan.
She was preceded in death by her father, William O. Ketola; stepfather, Clayton Aijala; grandparents, John and Esther DeMario and William H. and Katherine Ketola; two brothers, William Arthur and Arthur William at birth; in-laws, Jim and Sharon Dabb; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mike Hill officiating, preceded by a visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A celebration of life will follow the service at Hautala's Bar in Ironwood Township.
