Ironwood — Jesse Carroll, of Ironwood, was hired as the new administrative assistant to the director of admissions, marketing and public relations at Gogebic Community College by the board of trustees Tuesday night.
According to college officials, Carroll, a GCC alum, has the experience needed and is a strong advocate for the college. Carroll was selected from 12 applicants for the position.
“I am excited to welcome Jesse as the new assistant in admissions and marketing,” said Kim Zeckovich, director of admissions marketing and public relations. “He served in several leadership positions as a student at GCC and was even selected to serve as a student rep for our strategic plan. I’m glad to have him back in this capacity to bring his ideas, skills and knowledge to the position.”
The board voted to approve a contract for both Steiger’s Home Center and Forslund Building Supply to bid on products needed for the spec house students are building as part of the building trades program.
Forslund had originally won a bid for $95,228 which was approved by the board in January.
“Upon further review and due to the time sensitivity and product price volatility,” an agreement was provided to Steiger’s and Forslund to sign, along with a list for the balance of materials needed to complete the project, according to college president George McNulty.
“Per the agreement, Steiger’s and Forslund will be sent required items to bid on, as needed, from this list,” said McNulty, adding the lower bid will be awarded for those items in order to continue with the spec home in a timely manner.
The college sought bids to rebuild the south sewer lift station in the Lindquist Student and Conference Center, due to faulty pumps. The college received two bids and the board approved the lowest bid from Crane Engineering in the amount of $36,165.
