Sandra Jean 'Sandy' McLaughlin

TROUT CREEK, Mich. - Sandra Jean "Sandy" McLaughlin, 69, of Trout Creek, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Sandy was born on June 25, 1952, in Ontonagon, a daughter of Ernest Sheldon and Lila Mae (Knivila) Hemming. She attended Ewen-Trout Creek High School and graduated in 1970.

After raising her family, Sandy attended Gogebic Community College and graduated from their LPN program with the class of 1992. For more than 25 years, she was a dedicated licensed practical nurse in the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada.

Sandy took pleasure spending time with her family and cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. She was an avid supporter of high school athletics.

Sandy was an active member of her community and was involved in the Trout Creek American Legion Auxiliary and 494 Supporters. It was very important to her to help maintain the sense of community in her hometown. She enjoyed traveling but also loved being a homebody.

Sandy is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Don; three daughters, Stacie McLaughlin, Iron River, Shelly Fiszer (Chris Nolingberg), and her daughter, Rowyn Fiszer, all of Iron River, and Lisa (David) Polkky, and their children, Brendan and Marissa, all of Bruce Crossing; a son, Scott (Destiny), and their sons, Griffen, Brody and Trevyn, all of Bessemer; two sisters, Bonnie (Keith) Applekamp, Ewen, and Laura (Michael) DaCheff, Iron River; two brothers, David (Rhonda) Hemming and Dale Hemming, both of Trout Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Danny Hemming; and a niece, Billie Jo.

At her request, cremation will take place.

An informal celebration of Sandy's life will be held on Saturday, March 12, beginning at 11 a.m., EST, at the Trout Creek American Legion.

Interment will take place at the Trout Creek Cemetery in the spring.
