MANSON, N.C. - Marjorie M. (Wiitla) Mukavitz of Manson, a former Ironwood, Michigan, resident, passed away at The Hundley Center in South Hill, Virginia, on Feb. 25, 2022.
She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1953, and married Rudolph J. Mukavitz on Aug. 7, 1954.
Margie started playing the accordion at the age of 12 years old. She entertained at many local parties and wedding receptions. She was later joined by Rudy Mukavitz on guitar as the Two Sharps in the 1950s.
Margie moved from Ironwood in the late 1950s to California and then Maryland and North Carolina. She and her husband, Rudy, sailed for a year to the Bahamas after retiring. They later traveled to Alaska and across the United States and Canada. She enjoyed many leisure activities; however, caring for her family was her priority.
She is survived by her son, Michael of Stokesdale, North Carolina; her daughter, Paula Carmody of Bel Air, Maryland; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvo and Martha Wiitala; and her husband, Rudy Mukavitz, in 2018.
A celebration of life will be held at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood on Saturday, May 14. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Inurnment will take place at Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township.
