PLOVER, Wis. — Susan Marie Kangas, our beloved aunt, passed away at age 67, on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, at Generations Assisted Living in Plover. She was born Aug. 25, 1954, in Ironwood, Michigan, the daughter of the late Sulo and Hilma (Niemi) Kangas.
Susie was a joy and a blessing to all that knew her. Having Down Syndrome made her see and love life in a simplistic way; laugh, love, and fill the days doing the things you love, and Susie did just that! When she was young, her favorite pastime was changing her Barbie’s outfits, coloring, and doing word finds. In the evening you could find her watching Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk. On Sundays, she loved to attend St. Paul Lutheran Church with her mom.
Susie was an avid football fan, devoted to the Minnesota Vikings until her move to Wisconsin where the Packers won her heart! She loved participating in the Special Olympics, working at Highline in Hurley and going to White Oak in Plover.
She lived with her sister, Kathy Huhta, (and Max) for many years after her mom’s passing. Her last eight years were spent at Generations Assisted Living in Plover, where the loving staff cared for her and loved her as if she were family. We are forever grateful for them all!
Susie has broadened our compassion and taught us how to truly love. She will be missed dearly.
Susan is survived by her nieces, Melissa Huhta of Plover, Carol (Jason) Woelbing of Redwood Valley, Calfornia, and Jill Kangas in Florida; her nephew, Mark (Maxine) Huhta of Franklin, Tennessee; her great-nephew, Colton Woelbing, and great-nieces, Grace Woelbing and Amanda Zurawski; and her favorite person, Jody Kluck.
