Joyce Ann (Bergman) Hjalmquist

HURLEY, Wis. - Joyce Ann (Bergman) Hjalmquist of Ironwood, Michigan, passed away on Feb. 13, 2022.

Joyce was born on June 27, 1934, in Ironwood to Leonard and Elma (Kytola) Bergman. She attended Norrie School and Luther L. Wright High School, graduating with the class of 1952.

Joyce worked as a secretary at National Metals Bank after high school.

On June 21, 1958, she was united in marriage to Dave Hjalmquist, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2021. They were married for 63 years.

Joyce was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood.

She loved to play golf and was a member of the Gogebic Country Club Women's League. She also loved to play bridge, vacation in Florida, and spend time with her granddaughters.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jeri (Joe Brown); her son, David (Mikki); granddaughters, Jillyn and Robyn (Travis Yets); special daughter number two, Chris (Carl) Lahti; her brother, James (Mary) Bergman; cousins, Ardythe Korpela, Judith Rawluszki, Jack Bergman and families; brothers-in-law, Carl (Joan) Hjalmquist and Lars (Joan) Hjalmquist; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Dave, she was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Elma Bergman; two brothers in infancy; in-laws, Lars and Mamie Hjalmquist; and sister-in-law, Elly Conroy.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, on Saturday, March 19, with Pastor Nicole Hanson-Lynn officiating, preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gogebic County Club for a memorial in memory of Dave and Joyce Hjalmquist.
