Hurley - The Iron County Board of Supervisors considered the purchase of two floor scrubbers for the forestry and parks department/highway commission building and the Iron County Courthouse and a remodel and upgrade of the courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse at their regular meeting on Tuesday.
At the Iron County Finance Committee meeting on March 10, Board of Supervisors Chair Joseph Pinardi said that building custodian, Melinda Nasi, was using a mop to clean the floors of the courthouse. He said that the forestry and parks department and highway commission are planning to purchase a floor scrubber for their building and Nasi indicated that she would like to have one as well.
Pinardi said that it would take two hours of constant mopping to clean the 6,000 square feet of the courthouse, but with a floor scrubber, it would only take 36 minutes. He said it would not take long for the scrubbers to pay for themselves by saving time and labor.
On Tuesday, Pinardi said the vendor brought a floor scrubber, which uses water rather than solvent, to the courthouse for Nasi to try before the board of supervisors considered the purchase at the meeting. He said the scrubber did a great job of cleaning the floors and left them "bone dry," so the board approved the purchase.
The board also approved the remodeling of the small courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse, with cosmetic and information technology upgrades. Pinardi said that a major court case is coming up and the room needs to be remodeled before then.
Pinardi said the finance committee approved up to $20,000 for the remodel of the courtroom, but they do not think they will need to spend that much. The board of supervisors approved the remodel and upgrade under the condition that the costs do not exceed that amount.
The board of commissioners also:
-Approved the Iron County Forestry and Parks Department's annual report for 2021.
-Cancelled all outstanding checks from 2020.
-Cancelled a deed restriction for a 40-acre parcel of land located in the town of Pence.
