IRONWOOD, Mich. - Betty "Mabel" Rands, 96, of Bessemer, passed away on May 28, 2022, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood.
Betty was born in Ironwood on Aug. 8, 1925, the daughter of Reginald and Lillian (Tremain) Tippett. She attended school in Ironwood and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1943.
She was employed in Washington D.C. during World War II for the United States government as a secretary. She also worked at Gogebic Community College and the Gogebic County Courthouse as secretary to the chief deputy county clerk, retiring in 1991.
Betty was a member of the Bessemer Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and a member of the Bessemer Business and Professional Women's Club.
She enjoyed playing bridge and bowling, and bowled for more than 50 years.
Betty was married to George Sabol in 1947, and later to Leo Rands in 1977. Both preceded her in death.
Betty is survived by two sons, George (Madeline) Sabol of Johnson Creek and Mark (Shelly) Sabol of Bessemer; four grandsons, Brad Sabol, Scott (Tracy) Sabol, Shawn Sabol and Brock Sabol; six great-grandchildren, Brad Jr., Samantha, Ella, Aubrey, Landyn and Logyn Sabol; sister, Dorine (Emil) Sabol of Portland, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, George Sabol and Leo Rands; a son, Robert in 1991; and a brother, William Tippett.

A memorial service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood on Friday, June 17, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Pamela Starr officiating, preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
