PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Helen B. Carr, 99, formerly of Ironwood, Michigan, passed away on June 1, 2022.
She was born on Aug. 12, 1922, in Ironwood Township on the family farm, the daughter of William and Ada (Kivi) Estola.
Helen was married to Weldon "Bill" Carr from Ironwood on Dec. 24, 1942, in California. Helen and Bill lived in San Francisco and Stockton. They moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1957. Helen worked at the University of Michigan Dental School Lab. They moved back to Ironwood in 1977.
Helen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. After returning to Ironwood, Helen and Bill joined the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kimball, Wisconsin. She did volunteer work at the Christian Center for 10 years.
Helen enjoyed her family and friends. Her hobbies were crocheting, reading, sewing, cross-stitching, and her button collection. Helen and Bill traveled extensively.
Helen is survived by her son, Gary James (Sally) Carr of Placerville, California; grandchildren, Aaron, Stephen and Sarah; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ada Hurala of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Doris Estola of Ironwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ada Estola; her loving husband, Bill; her son, Randy Lee Carr; brothers, Walter, Elmer, Arnie, Reino and Donald Estola; and sisters, Irene Komac, Anne Wieland, Inez Sisko, Mildred Estola, Vienna Aili and Judy King.
A memorial service will be held at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ironwood on Thursday, June 30, with Pastor Steve Estola officiating, preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
