Wisconsin Primary Election to be held Aug. 9

The Wisconsin primary election will take place Aug. 9. By turning out to vote, Wisconsinites will be able to decide which candidates will appear on the general election ballot in November.

On a local level, Iron County Sheriff Paul W. Samardich is running for re-election as Republican. There is no candidate for sheriff on the Democratic ballot. Conversely, Iron County’s Clerk of Court Karen M. Ransanici is running for re-election as a Democrat, and there are no candidates for the position on the Republican ballot.

Robert Barnabo is running for county coroner as a Republican. There are no Democratic candidates and current coroner Diane Simonich is not running for re-election.

Elsewhere on the Democratic Party ballot, Tony Evers is running for re-election as governor and Josh Kaul is running for re-election as attorney general. Incumbent Doug La Follette and challenger Alexia Sabor are both running for secretary of state. Richard Dick Ausman is running for the Wisconsin’s Seventh District in U.S. Congress.

Current Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes and State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski are both running in the primary as the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. The other party candidates for this position include Alex Lasry, Kou C. Lee, Peter Peckarsky, Steven Olikara, Darrell Williams and Tom Nelson.

Democrats Peng Her and Sara Rodriguez are competing against each other to be the party’s new candidate for lieutenant governor. Aaron Richardson, Angelito Tenorio and Gillian Battino are running for state treasurer.

On a legislative level, Kelly Westlund is the Democratic candidate for state senator for District 25. State Sen. Janet Bewley, D-Ashland, is not running for re-election. Democrat John Adams is the party’s candidate for representative to the state assembly. State Rep. Beth Meyers, D-Bayfield, is also not running for re-election.

Wisconsin U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson is running again as a Republican, but his candidacy is being challenged from within the party by David Schroeder.

Similarly, David W. Kunelius II is running for U.S. Congress as a Republican against incumbent U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Hazelhurtst.

Kevin Nicholson, Rebecca Kleefisch, Timothy Ramthun, Adam J. Fisher and Tim Michels seek to challenge Gov. Evers in the November election as the Republican candidate.

The Republican candidates for lieutenant governor are Patrick Testin, Will Martin, Kyle Yudes, Roger Roth, David C. Varnam, Cindy Werner, David D. King and Jonathan Wickmann.

Amy Lynn Loudenbeck, Jay Schroeder and Justin D. Schmidtka are the Republican candidates for Secretary of State.

John S. Lieber and Orlando Owens are running as Republicans for the position of state treasurer.

The Republican candidate for state senator for District 25 is Romaine Robert Quinn and the candidates for representative to the state Assembly are Chanz Green and John A. Schey.

The only Constitution Party candidate is Andrew Zuelke, running as state treasurer. The only person on the Libertarian party ballot is Neil Harmon, who is running for secretary of state.
