Arthur Eanar Johnson

MERRILL, Wis. - Arthur Eanar Johnson, 74, of Merrill and formally of Ironwood, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022, in his sleep.

Art was born the son of Eanar and Melissa (Proctor) Johnson on Dec. 27, 1947, in Ironwood. He was a graduate of A.D. Johnson High School in Bessemer, Michigan, and Gogebic Community College. He was employed for the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department, Giovanoni's Hardware store in Hurley, and Ace Hardware in Merrill.

Art was married to the love of his life, Elizabeth "Betty" Schiavetti, for 55 years.

He was an avid hunter and loved to spend time with his boys at the camp. In his later years, he became the camp cook. Art loved to go camping and have campfires with his family. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement wintering in Florida. He loved his daily swims and happy hours.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Jerry (Cyndi) Johnson, Thomas (Jill) Johnson and Beth (Matt) Grefe; brothers, Bill (Grace) McDonald of Bessemer and Dennis (Karen) Johnson of Ashland; seven grandchildren, Nate, Henry and Lily Grefe, Reid Johnson, Evan Erspamer, Jerzy Johnson, and Cassie Firn. Art is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation for Arthur will take place on Monday, Aug. 8, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at Cornerstone Christian Church in Ramsay, with a service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church and a luncheon to take place.
