Bessemer - Unlike Memorial Day, which honors veterans who lost their lives while serving in American wars, Veterans Day celebrates all U.S. veterans.

Johnston Junior and Senior High School in Bessemer.Students from Washington Elementary School also had been bused in from several blocks away to enjoy the program.Gogebic County Veterans Officer John Frello emceed the program, which also included Donna Frello, commander of Bessemer VFW Post 3673, and Charlie Tirpik, commander of American Legion Post 27, and a joint color guard led by Irv Mattson.

Band teacher Josh Kepich also led band and choir students in providing musical entertainment.

In addition, several students who raise and lower the flag each day at Washington Elementary School, received certificates of thanks from Donna Frello.

John Frello read the names of local members of the service who passed away since the last Veterans Day program, followed by the playing of "Taps."
