June Ann Beck

PORTAGE, Mich. - June Ann Beck, 84, of Portage, formerly of Marshall, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 in Portage.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1938, to Charles and Verda (Baughman) Adams in Bedford Township in downstate Monroe County. She graduated from Marshall High School with the class of 1958.

June met David Beck at the Midway Roller Rink in Battle Creek. They knew it was meant to be, and were married on June 14, 1958. Sadly, David passed away on June 29, 2021.

June started her career as a house cleaner for many Marshall families and she then became a private home caregiver for more than 25 years for many of the same families she cleaned for. June operated her own Chronic Fatigue Support Group in Marshall for many years.

June faithfully watched and fed the hummingbirds at home in Marshall and up at their campsite on Lake Gogebic in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She knew when the hummingbirds would come back in the spring, when the babies were born and when it was time to fly south. She was known up there as the hummingbird lady. She loved going to Lake Gogebic with David and family for more than 60 years. June met many friends over those years of traveling up north. She enjoyed knitting hot pads and dish cloths and giving them away, tatting and sewing. Collecting recipes and cookbooks was one of her favorite hobbies. June's family and friends will especially miss her homemade pie, with apple being the best and most requested.

June is survived by her loving daughters, Carmen LaGuardia of Michigan and Sherry (Craig) Evans of Michigan; her grandchildren, Randall Bridge Jr., Andrea Bridge, Abigail (Westin) Seifert and Michael (Kaylie) Evans; her great-granddaughter, Jordyn Bridge; her grand dog, Scout; her great-grand dogs, Alice and Toby; her sisters, Rose (H.L.) May and Laura Crouch; and her brothers, Sonny Adams and Tom Rugg. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her daughter, Kim Beck; her parents; her brothers, Raymond Adams, Earl Rugg Jr, Richard Rugg, Dennis Rugg and Arnold Adams; her stepfather, Earl Rugg Sr .; and stepmother, Evelyn Adams.

Visitation for June will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services at 723 U.S. 27 N. in Marshall, with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

June will be laid to rest next to her husband, David, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, in a private ceremony.
