MILLERSVILLE, Md. - Russell Matteus Jurmu, 90, of Millersville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022.
Russell was born in Wakefield, Michigan, to the late Oskari John and Evi Armeda Jurmu. He attended Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland and went on to receive his master's degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus.
Russell worked for Westinghouse, and he retired after 42 years of service.
Russell was a dedicated and longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, pheasant hunting, traveling, and was an avid fan of the Orioles and former Baltimore Colts. Russell loved having family gatherings, especially "Finnish picnics" which brought him the most joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Hedrick; his twin brother, Ralph; a sister, Joyce Jurmu; and a brother, Bernie.
Russell is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Audrey; loving daughters, Diane Jurmu Critzman and her husband, Bill, and Kathy Jurmu Dallman and her husband, the Rev. Roger Dallman; cherished grandchildren, Stacey Paugh and her husband, Eric, Andrew Dallman, Adam Dallman, and Evi Hoy and her husband, Oliver; beloved great-granddaughter, Lydia Hoy; and dear siblings, David Jurmu and his wife, Rae Marie, June Rado and Eva Urso. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Russell will be remembered at a service in the spring.
Interment will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
