Bessemer — Kristie Peterson of Marenisco has accepted the job of clerk-treasurer for the city of Bessemer. She will begin her new job on Feb. 21.
The offer was made on Feb. 2 after members of the City Council interviewed Peterson and one other candidate in a special meeting on Feb. 1.
Samantha Dorr, the city’s secretary and coordinator of the Downtown Development Authority, reported the details on Tuesday by phone.
Since July of 2021, Peterson has been a pupil auditor and general education assistant for the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District.
Previously, since 2007, she had been employed by the Bessemer branch of the Secretary of State Office, where her successive roles included assisting with financial records, followed by managing the office and the budget.
Peterson will receive an associate degree in business from Gogebic Community College in May, after which she plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
Until Peterson begins her new role with the city, Jennifer Adams will continue to act as the clerk/treasurer while also serving in her new job as city manager.
A Jan. 26 Globe report had stated that Adams had been authorized by the council at that time to offer the clerk/treasurer position to one of 10 applicants; however, that candidate declined the offer, according to Dorr.
In other news, council members also voted in a separate special meeting on Feb. 3 to fund the purchase of a 2021 Ford Super Duty F-240. No delivery date has been set.
