ARBOR VITAE, Wis. - Michael F. Kimball, 69, of Arbor Vitae, passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2023, with his wife of 25 years by his side.
Mike was born in Ironwood, Michigan, on July 24, 1953, to Robert and Adele (Ringwall) Kimball. He attended school in Ironwood, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School in 1972.
Mike made his living in the construction trade as a contractor for 50 years. Thirty of those years, he owned and operated his own construction company, Kimball Builders, where he built, designed and remodeled many homes in the Lakeland area, including his own. He was loved and respected by many.
Mike enjoyed many pastimes. He loved listening to good rock and roll music and playing his guitar. He was an accomplished downhill skier. He loved fast cars, fast boats, fast motorcycles and a slick pair of racing K2's. He also loved relaxing on his boat while enjoying a cocktail on one of many lakes in the area, especially The Chain. He enjoyed gardening and canning, was a self-taught mechanic and an amazing cook, priding himself with his homemade pasta sauce made from homegrown tomatoes grown by himself in the garden. He also loved his baby, Nala, the beagle rescue dog that Robin brought home after he attempted an exasperated guttural Finnish "no."
He married the former Robin K. Daniels on Dec. 20, 1997, at Blackjack Ski Resort in Bessemer, Michigan. She survives. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen (Joseph) Markiewicz and Donna (Lewey) Beckham; his brothers, Jimmy, Dennis and Brian Kimball; his son, Chase Michael Thompson; and Robin's daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Chris Windberg, and their son Wyatt. Mike is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends, as well as special cousins, Evelyn and Rod Behrendt.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held this summer.
Bolger Funeral Home of Woodruff is in charge of arrangements.
