HURLEY, Wis. - Carol Jean Moncher, 83, of Hurley, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 24, 2023, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota, after a brief illness.
Born in Ironwood, Michigan, on Oct. 1, 1939, to Albert J. Lamont and Stella F. Lamont (Mackewitz), Carol attended schools in Ironwood and graduated from St. Ambrose Catholic High School.
Carol leaves behind her children, Joseph (Kelly) Moncher, Fountain, Colorado, James (Chris) Moncher, Fond du Lac, Richard (Ulya) Moncher, Santa Monica, California, Karen (Jeff) Tenlen, Montreal, and Daniel Moncher (Brittany Massoglia) Saxon.
She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, David Moncher, April Garcia, Kari, James and Heather Moncher, Angelika, Timosha, Vitalina and Keanu Moncher, Jeffrey and Jacob Tenlen, Devvin Menghini, and Gavyn Moncher; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are siblings, Jackie Wickman of Ashwaubenon, Robert Lamont (Margie Baker) of Turtle Lake, and Marge Pidde of Seattle, Washington. Carol also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Ronald Wickman and Pete Pidde; niece, Susie Wickman; and nephew, Tom Wickman. In September 2022, she lost the love of her life, Robert Gurske. Carol is also survived by Bob's children, Anthony (Peggy Gurske) of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, Becky (Steve) Steffen of Pleasant Prairie, and Anita (Steve) Wallig of Kenosha.
In her early years she worked as a telephone operator before moving to California where her first child was born. Her family moved to Milwaukee where the rest of the children were born. In 1973 the family came back home and settled in Hurley where Carol lived since then.
When her youngest child was old enough for school Carol started working as a CNA, and in her 40s she started studying at Gogebic Community College and graduated as an LPN. She worked at Grand View Hospital more than 20 years.
There will be no funeral, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
