IRONWOOD, Mich. - Albert "Buzz" George Burzinski, 92, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Buzz was born in Iron Belt, Wisconsin, on Feb. 16, 1931, to Andrew and Kathryn (Betro) Burzinski. He attended Iron Belt schools and graduated in 1949. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949 and was stationed in Italy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952.
Buzz was employed at the Montreal Mine until it closed in 1962. He owned and operated Clark Gas Station until 1979 when he went on to work as a bus driver and mechanic for the Ironwood Schools until retiring in 1994.
Buzz was married to the former Margaret Stano in 1954 and together they had four children, Theresa, Joseph, Donna and Steven. She preceded him in death in 1993.
In 1995, Buzz was united in marriage with Jean Heiderer in Park Fall, Wisconsin, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Together they enjoyed going to Canada fishing, sightseeing, and traveling to all 50 U.S. states.
Buzz was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. He was also a member of the Aurora Athletic Club and the Hurley VFW. Buzz enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; four children, Theresa Pischer of Winter Haven, Florida, Joe (Kim) Burzinski of University City, Missouri, Donna Burzinski of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Steven Burzinski (Amanda Clark) of Ironwood; six stepchildren, Patricia, John Jr., Kathy, James, Marlene, and Brenda; six grandchildren, Becky Cording (Troy), Dennis Pischer (Lindy), David Pischer (Beth), Joseph Burzinski, Grace Burzinski and Henry Burzinski, six great-grandchildren, Koral Eddings (Kyle), Isaac, Acacia and Evelyn Pischer, and Connor and Harper Pischer; and three great-great-grandchildren, DJ, Averie and Berkley Eddings. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Buzz was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Margaret; son-in-law, Dennis Pischer; stepson, Jeffrey Miller; great-grandaughter, Emily Pischer; and brothers and sisters, Josephine, Charlotte, Stephen, Newfry, Isadore, Delores and Eleanor.
Visitation and Mass were held on Monday, March 20, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood with Father Brian Gerber officiating.
Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date with military honors provided by the Hurley VFW.
