Edward Joseph Struwe

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Edward "Ed" "Buppa" Joseph Struwe of Ironwood, passed away on March 24, 2023, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Ed was born Feb. 29, 1948, in Chicago. He was the only child of Ida Pennavaria and Edward Alfred Struwe.

He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Lori Ann Struwe; his mother, Ida Pennavaria; and father, Edward Alfred Struwe.

He is survived by his children, Karen Morris, Erik Knivila (Christina) and Kelsi Knivila. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Tiffany Miller (Mitchell), Edward Guilford, William Guilford, Aria Lambert, Tatum Lambert, Isla Lambert, Eddie Knivila, August Knivila and Luciana Knivila. He also leaves behind five great grandchildren - each of whom adored their Buppa.

Ed dedicated his life to helping others. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. It was there he developed a love for flying and adventure as well as helping others. He continued down that path in the medical field, obtaining his degree in nursing at Pasadena City College and later earning his Nurse Practitioner through the Mayo Clinic. He worked as a flight nurse and in emergency trauma care until his retirement. Following retirement he worked for the Gogebic County Sheriff's Office, in victim services, until he was no longer physically able to do so.

To know Ed, was to know his love for sweets as well as the Chicago Cubs. Ed was an avid reader, taking special interest in all thing's science fiction and technology. Ed was fascinated by technology and loved to collect "treasures" of the things he took interest in. He loved to fly and worked on earning his private pilot license while dreaming of owning his own aircraft one day. Later in his life, Ed developed a love for the open water, captaining his family around Lake Superior on his beloved boat the "Aria Grace." Ed was unique, to be sure, having a photographic memory and even taking hypnosis training. His enthusiasm for collecting and shooting unique firearms found him taking family and friends to the range as often as he could, as well as participating in several educational programs around that hobby.

Ed was a fascinating person who lived a full life filled with love. He will be missed by the many who were left behind, but who will be lovingly met by his beautiful wife in heaven.

Upon his request, cremation has taken place. An intimate memorial service will be held for family and close friends in conjunction with his late wife, Lori, in Ironwood, late May 2023.
