Joyce Ann LeGassa

WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Joyce Ann LeGassa, 77, of Wakefield, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Joyce was born on Jan. 16, 1946, in Wakefield, a daughter of Paul and Lolita (Goodenow) Joki. She graduated from Wakefield High School and continued her education at Northern Michigan University and earned a two-year business degree.

On Sept. 30, 1967, Joyce was united in marriage to Glen Patrick “Max” LeGassa, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wakefield.

She attended All Saints Lutheran Church in Wakefield and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Interests in her life were skating, hockey, horses, lawn and garden work, helping with cutting wood to burn for houses, knitting and hooking rugs at home.

Joyce had various jobs throughout her life, including with the State of Michigan Department of Social Services, in the laundry department at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield and concluded her working career in the laundry department at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, Wisconsin.

Joyce is survived by a daughter, Jody (Jeff) Derbin, Taylor, Michigan; a son, Paul (Sarah) LeGassa, Wakefield; five grandchildren, Peter (Hope) Martin, Sheila (James) Emert, Mason Korhonen, Hailey Korhonen and Tori Westeen; four great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Aubree, Rayna and Ryder; her sister-in-law, Barbara Joki, Nelma, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen “Max,” on Oct. 18, 2000; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and John Gardner; and a brother, Paul Joki.

Cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held.

Interment will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
