WAKEFIELD, Mich. - June L. Wienandt, 95, of Wakefield, died on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield. She entered the nursing home on May 5, 2023. She had been in failing health for several weeks and was under hospice care in the facility for the last 2-3 days prior to her death.

June was born on June 12, 1928, in Sidnaw, Michigan. She was the seventh of nine children born to John and Emma Serrahn. John was a local dairy farmer in the Ontonagon area.

June graduated from high school in Ontonagon on June 6, 1946. She attained the rank of eighth of 43 graduating seniors.

June married Kenneth E. Wienandt of Mellen, Wisconsin, on March 1, 1947. The couple lived in Ontonagon, Bergland and Bingoville, before moving to Wakefield in 1962.

The couple had five children, Arthur (the late Mary), Manhattan, Kansas, and David (Debbie Harvey), Dick (Maria), Sherry (the late Mike) Ravelli and Carol (Gary) Balduc, all of Wakefield. Her husband last worked at the White Pine Copper Company for many years before he retired in 1978. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1989.

June is survived by her five children, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Mary A. Lehtimaki, West Bend, Wisconsin.

June loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took pride in knowing each child's birthday and celebrating it each year. June worked at the local pizza shop for many years and also cooked and cleaned at a ski hill. She was a faithful member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. There she was a member of its Miriam Circle and quilt guild for many years.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, E8223 Sanders Road, in Bessemer, with the Rev. Timothy J. Steckling officiating.

Burial will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.

After the graveside ceremony, a hot lunch will be served back at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church fellowship hall. Funeral attendees are cordially invited to attend this lunch. June's family would welcome your presence.
