BRUCE CROSSING, Mich. - Wilfred Joseph "Bill" Wing, 84, of Bruce Crossing, passed away on July 24, 2023.
Bill was born July 30, 1938, in Dearborn. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation. He served three years as a Morse intercept operator at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, and in Europe.
He married Cathy Neumann on Sept. 12, 2003. Together they had seven children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening with his wife, Cathy.
Bill was an active member of the community including a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watersmeet. He was also a trustee on the Stannard Township Board, a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans Organization, both in Ontonagon. He drove a van for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and was a member of the American Legion Post 92 in Rockland.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred Sr. and Gertrude (nee Donovan) Wing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; and family members: Ann Marie and Mike Nowacki of Schererville, Indiana; Mike and Claudia Wing of Dyer, Indiana; Tim and Tina Wing of Demotte, Indiana; John Wing of Gary, Indiana; Bill and Sharon Smith of The Villages, Florida; David and Evelyn Marshall of Keeseville, New York; Tom and Cindy Wing of Marion, Ohio; Trisha Haapala of Ewing, Michigan; Jim and Summer Vrell of Milan, Illinois; Travis and Lindsey Thom of Kingsford; Bob and Rae Jean Brownell of Watersmeet; John and Cheryl Neumann of Watersmeet; Bill Neumann of Watersmeet; and Don and Mary Ann Bolich of Ironwood.
The Cane Funeral Home of Bruce Crossing is assisting the family. A funeral Mass was held July 29, at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watersmeet, with a memorial service following at his sons' home in Kenton.
