GREEN BAY, Wis. - Gerald "Mergy" Alessandroni, 72, formerly of Ironwood, Michigan, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Oct. 4, 2023, in Green Bay, after battling ALS and Cancer.
Gerald was born Oct. 31, 1950, to parents Gildo and Beatrice "Pinky" (Eliason) Alessandroni in Ironwood, Michigan. He attended Saint Ambrose and Luther L. Wright schools. Gerald joined the army in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1970. He married Connie J. Allen of Ramsey, Michigan, on August 4, 1973. Gerald was proud to have served his country and was a member of the VFW.
Gerald was a proud family man who enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. There was never a time where he would not help anyone when they needed it. He was good at putting a smile on your face and making you laugh. He had many friends and family that enjoyed being in his company.
Due to the many life and work experiences, Gerald was a jack of all trades. He acquired skills over the years that came in handy with making repairs to vehicles, doing home improvements and furniture making. Over the years he had many different types of jobs in the trades. His primary career was a copper miner and concurrently drove the bus to transport the miners to White Pine. He was employed by Gene's Auto where he worked alongside his brother, Larry. Ultimately, he retired from American foods working as a security guard in Green Bay.
Gerald had many hobbies and interests that included woodworking, hunting, photography, puzzles, crosswords, watching Jeopardy, old westerns and war history.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Connie Alessandroni; three daughters, Jodi (Todd) Pelkola, Amanda Alessandroni, of Green Bay, and Geri Alessandroni, of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandsons, Jacob and Drew (Jodi) Pelkola; and Sophia (Amanda) Wilson. He is further survived by brothers, Charlie Alexandroni, of Bessemer, Michigan, Larry "Bean Bag" Alexandroni, of Leona; brother and sister in-law, Bruce Allen, of Green Bay, and Gail Armichardy, of Bessemer; and his beloved dog, Bella.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Gildo and Beatrice Alessandroni; eldest brother, John Alexandroni; and sister, Sandy Alexandroni.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life and burial service on Monday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood, Michigan.
