John Sendra

MERCER, Wis. – John Sendra, 78, of Mercer, Wisconsin, passed away on Sept. 28, 2023, with his family and friends by his side. John was born on March 27, 1945, to Florian and Helen (Pietkiewicz) Sendra in Lipinki, Poland.

He graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero, Illinois, 1963, attended Roosevelt University in Chicago, and attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in sociology and psychology.

John married his high school sweetheart, Antoinette M. Duben (Toni), on April 23, 1966, and went on to have two children, Anthony and Jennifer. John was preceded in death by his loving daughter.

John worked primarily in the food industry in sales and management positions.

John was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, and was a past trustee for the church. He was a proud Knights of Columbus and Mercer Lions member and an ardent supporter of many other local groups and organizations. He was very active in Iron County and Mercer governments, having served as a board member at the county and local levels and chairman of the town.

He was predeceased by his parents, Florian and Helen; grandparents, Marcin and Katarzyna Sendra, and Michael and Sophia Pietkiewicz.

John is survived by his loving wife, Antoinette; son, Anthony (Paulina); grandchildren, Austen (Jamie), Jacob, Joshua and Ethan; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

John's greatest desire for those he loved and cared for was that they succeed in life.

A visitation will be at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with a Rite of Committal at the Mercer Cemetery in Mercer, on Oct. 21, 2023. A luncheon will be held following the Mass.
