BRUCE CROSSING, Mich. - Effie Thomas, 89, of Bruce Crossing, passed away on Oct. 17, 2023, at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1934, to the late Thomas and Jennie (Pelkola) Metos.
Effie was united in marriage to the late Oscar Ivio. After his death, she married the late Steve Thomas. Effie loved to crotchet afghans, making literally hundreds over the years that were shared with friends and family. She was an enormous fan of Elvis Presley. Effie enjoyed cooking and baking pasties and cinnamon rolls. During her free time, she liked to watch games shows and her soap operas.
Effie is survived by her son, Edward (Jodi) Ivio; daughter, Dolores (Dan) Leppanen; grandchildren, Kevin (Courtney) Ivio and Eric (Amy) Ivio; brothers, Alex (Brenda) Metos of Bruce Crossing, and Thomas Metos of Milwaukee; sister, Sylvia (Sam) Sain of Marquette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Oscar Ivio and Steve Thomas; brothers, James, George, John and Robert Metos; and sisters, Mary (Tom) DeZur, Jenny (Bob) Koski, Katherine (Bill) Moilanen and Dorothy Metos.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., at the Cane Funeral Home-Bruce Crossing Chapel in Bruce Crossing. Friends may call at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Bruce Crossing.
