Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Ironwood — The Gogebic-Iron County Airport board has hired a new airport manager after a long search.
Jeremy Busch, a Wakefield resident and aviation enthusiast, began training at the airport on Monday to replace Todd Richter as manager.
“Jeremy will be training for about a year, receiving certifications and learning different aspects of the airport,” said airport board member and county board chairman Jim Lorenson.
Lorenson told The Globe Tuesday morning that Busch has a background as a pilot, and has a record of working well collaboratively, something that helped him stand out.
“He is able to work well with people — something that we really wanted, given the airport works with both private aviation people and with the airline,” said Lorenson.
“We needed someone who would have the initiative and drive that will help the airport move forward,” said Lorenson. “And we feel like he does.”
Additionally, the board met on Thursday for a special meeting, where they voted to approve the repair of the terminal heat pump, with the cost not to exceed $20,000.
Richter, the former airport manager, has been acting as interim manager for months while the board searched for his replacement.
