WAKEFIELD, Mich. - At the midnight hour Nov. 21, 2023, Edna Loretta Hollenbeck, age 100, peacefully passed away in at Gogebic Medical Facility in Wakefield.
Edna was born Oct. 27, 1923, to Fred and Eve Flemmer in Napoleon, North Dakota. She married William "Denny" Hollenbeck, a World War II Purple Heart veteran, on Nov. 27, 1948, after exchanging love letters during the war. They had four children, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Edna was a registered nurse for more than 40 years and was trained in massage and hydrotherapy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her brother, Herb Flemmer, and three sisters, Leona Miller, Alvina Heitzmann, Eldina Heinrich; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren, including Carter and Layla Miller.
She is survived by one sister, Olga Rodin; four children, Sandra (Jerry) Floyd, Ron (Joyce) Hollenbeck, Monte (Winona) Hollenbeck and Brenda (Bob) Schueler; eight grandchildren, Kalomb (Amy) Hollenbeck, Travis (Amber) Hollenbeck, Nick (Jane) Nashed, Lief (Janette) Nashed, Katrina (John) McCauley, Lori (Mike) Serle, Arianna (Clint) Miller and Alex Schueler, 11 great-grandchildren, Kiah, Reiley, Leland and Aracely Hollenbeck, Blaze, Sienna and Axel Hollenbeck, Lief and Jensen Nashed, and Lincoln and Annabelle Serle; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank Gogebic Medical Facility for their years of wonderful care of Edna.
Edna will be buried next to her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek in the spring.
