Herbert George Levin

OSPREY, Fla. - Herbert George Levin passed away on Dec. 27, 2023 at his home in Osprey, Florida, at the age of 58.

Herb "Doc" was born on March 25, 1965, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Herbert and Georgia (Kaysner) Levin.

He spent his early childhood years growing up in "The Soo" surrounded by family including his beloved grandparents. His summers were spent on the water at lakes near Curtis and visiting his cousins at Crystal Lake, Michigan. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed boating, water skiing, and outdoor sports.

In his teen years, Herb moved with his family to Ironwood, Michigan, where his father was publisher of the Ironwood Daily Globe. In Ironwood, Herb continued his love of winter sports including skiing and snowmobiling. There Herb met his best friend and love of his life, Tammy Levin. They married on April 9, 1988, shortly after relocating together to Sarasota, Florida.

Herb studied at Northern Michigan University and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He went on to establish a long, successful career in the fields of health care, banking and IT services.

Herb was a gentle giant who was loyal and protective of his family and friends. He had a sparkle in his eye, a contagious smile, and filled the room with his presence.

He is survived by his mother, Georgia Levin; uncle, Donald Levin; aunt, Ethel (Levin) Elico; along with many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert W. Levin Sr .; his wife of more than 30 years, Tammy Levin; his sister, Kim Levin; and his uncle, Roy C. Levin.

Herb requested to be cremated.

His "larger than life" personality will be missed dearly by all who are proud to have been part of his life.

"Bye for now."
