HURLEY, Wis. - Known and loved by many as "Sue," "Susie," and "Susie-Q," Sandra Susan Hamlin went home to be forever with Jesus on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023.
Sue was born on April 2, 1944, to Bonita and William Nemacheck. She graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in Detroit, in 1962, and had a brief career with Michigan Bell where she met the love of her life, Roy Hamlin.
Roy and Sue were married on Nov. 23, 1968, and enjoyed a beautiful life together. They fulfilled their dream of moving "up north" in 1985 when they moved to Montreal, Wisconsin. They continued to raise their family and lived there for nearly 30 years.
Sue was a homemaker, wife and mother, but above all else, she was a true caregiver. In addition to her own children, Sue opened her home to babysit and care for other children for many years. Her greatest joy was becoming a grandma and each of her grandchildren had the privilege of going to grandma's house instead of daycare. Sue also selflessly cared for her husband in later years and continued to share her heart of empathy with anyone in need.
Sue lived at Villa Vista Apartments from 2013 to 2020, where she enjoyed being part of a community of friends who became like family. She loved daily afternoon coffee gatherings and was blessed to be among friends who cared for each other.
Sue's most recent residence was Sky View Nursing Center. Her family is forever grateful for the love, care, and support the staff provided for Sue as well as her family.
Sue is survived by her children, Bill (Carol) Hamlin and Sandra (Bob) Genisot; grandchildren, Erika, Matthew and Andy Hamlin, and Jeffrey and Michael Genisot; great-grandson, Levi Robinson; sister, Judy Haeger (Eric Erickson); and brothers, Pat (Jean) Nemacheck and Tom Nemacheck.
A celebration of life for Sue will be held on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2 p.m. at Cornerstone Church in Ramsay, Michigan.
