MISSOULA, Mont. - Russell Robert Nyman, passed away from cancer on Dec. 5, 2023, with his partner Penny by his side at their home in Montana.
He was born in Wakefield, Michigan, in 1963 to Evelyn Tussa and Russell Nyman. For forty years, most of it in the U.P., he was employed as a logger and truck driver and had an excellent work ethic. With a cup of Holiday coffee in hand he would jump in his log truck and be onsite with ample time left to catch the sunrise.
While growing up his family enjoyed camping and fishing, often going out on Lake Superior for the big ones. He and his brother, Clifford, also enjoyed ski-flying and carried the flags at the opening of Copper Peak in the 1970's. Rusty's Harley was his favorite possession and he rode it at every opportunity locally as well as throughout the USA, including several trips to Sturgis. Rusty had a reputation for his rowdy ways but more importantly for his kindness and willingness to help others, including as a volunteer angel for a recovery unit of the Bessemer Police Department. He understood the values of compassion and forgiveness so necessary to people who need a little help. As an intuitive, likable guy and good friend he will be sorely missed.
Rusty is proceeded in death by his father, Russell Nyman; his mother, Evelyn; and his brother, Clifford.
He is survived by his son, Kody; his grandson, Brody; his sister, Wendy (Phil) and family; his sister, Brenda (Marc) and family; and two stepdaughters, Brook and Kaitlyn along with their families.
To celebrate his life, there will be a Harley ride when the weather breaks. Further info: [email protected]. Condolences may be sent to Kody and Brody Nyman, at 201 Nunnamacher St. Apt#1-4, Wakefield, Michigan 49968.
