BESSEMER, Mich. — James B. Peterson, 80, of Bessemer, passed away from health complications on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024.
James was born on May 9, 1943, to Evald and Mary Peterson. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmaceutical studies from Ferris State University in 1965.
James worked as a pharmacist for 50 years. He retired in 2015.
James was an avid runner and competed in multiple 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons and marathons. He helped to design and implement the inaugural Bessemer Hometown Run, held yearly during the Bessemer Fourth of July Celebration. In addition to running, James enjoyed playing chess, snowshoeing, hiking, studying geology, and watching the Detroit Red Wings and Michigan Wolverines football team.
James loved spending time with his sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his generosity and his unique sense of humor.
James is survived by his sons, James and Michael, his daughters-in-law, Carolyn and Monique, his brother, Gerald, and his grandchildren, Thomas, Lucas and Miriam.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
