Ironwood - The Ironwood Carnegie Library is in the middle of renovations, adding a main floor restroom, according to Library Director Lynne Wiercinski.

"We are working on staying open as long as we can during construction. We have had to close for a couple days when it wouldn't be safe for patrons to be in the library while they were working," said Wiercinski.

She said the project is running well, and the restroom is something that the library officials had been wanting to do for many years.

The funds for the project come from a grant called the Transforming Communities Grant, from the American Library Association, as well as funds from the Friends of the Ironwood Carnegie Library, and savings from the past few years that have been set aside for the project.

"Part of that grant we were able to utilize to start this project," she said. "It is going toward making our library more accessible."

The new restroom will be located in the nonfiction section of the main level.

The library plans to continue its programming as scheduled. Some upcoming programs include:

Today - Senior Health and Wellness Series: Sleep Difficulties at 2 p.m. This program is part of the greater Senior Health and Wellness Series that was funded by the American Library Association Transforming Communities Grant.

Feb. 19 - Adult Poetry Group to meet at 5:30 p.m.

Feb. 21 - Lincoln: 1937-1965. This program starts at 3:30 p.m. and brings in local historian Larry Peterson for a discussion about Lincoln's life.

Feb. 22. - Diversity Matters Reading Group at 6 p.m.

In March, the library has many things prepared, which the staff is excited about.

They are planning to host a program about Medicare with the assistance of Kendra Williams.

The library is also preparing a presentation about ASAIHA Nordic, an exercise program that is geared toward seniors.

March also marks the start of the Great Michigan Read, with this year's book being "Firekeeper's Daughter" by Angeline Boulley.
