Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Sally Louise Tourville, 90, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield. A lifelong resident of Gogebic County, Sally was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
Sally was born on Oct. 29, 1933, in Wakefield, to Arvo and Marion Torkko. She met and married Ronald Tourville, and they spent 51 wonderful years together before his passing on Dec. 14, 2007. Sally and Ron owned the Dandee Bakery in downtown Bessemer for many years. Sally was well-known for her own home baked goods, especially the holiday decorated cut out cookies she created for her family and others. There was always something sweet that she lovingly prepared to offer to her frequent visitors at her home.
After retirement, Sally began a career of child care at Big Powderhorn Ski Resort's kinderschool and continued at the Ark Christian Daycare where she was affectionately called "Grandma Sally" by all the children she cared for.
Sally is survived by a son, Tim (Chris), Manchester, New Hampshire; a daughter, Julie (Mark) Raulie, Athens, Tennessee; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Jill Marie; and her sister.
The family of Sally would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility, who for the past seven years loved and cared for our mother like she was a member of their own families. Thank you to the family and friends who continued to visit Sally over the years at the nursing home. The love she showed to others throughout her life came back to her tenfold in her later life.
A celebration of life for Sally and interment of her and Ronnie's cremated remains will be held in the spring.
