WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Sylvia Ann LaMaide, 88, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, with her family at her side.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1935, in Ashland, Wisconsin, a daughter of Robert and Laura (Englund) Magnuson.
On Aug. 8, 1953, Sylvia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Maxin G. LaMaide, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ashland.
She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary to the Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 and a member of All Saints Lutheran Church. She was a Den Mother.
Sylvia especially enjoyed family gatherings and attending the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going to the casino and playing bingo, sewing and bowling, but her greatest love was to travel with Max.
Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a caring, loving person with a heart of gold and would go out of her way to help anyone.
She was a homemaker, and worked at Munsingwear Inc. and Indianhead Mountain Resort.
Sylvia is survived by two sons, Daniel (Jean) and Maxin Jr. "Mickey;" two daughters, Cookie (Jon) White and Cheri (Dave) Brentar; nine grandchildren, Ed (April), Bill (Sarah), Dale (Bill), Ann, Chelsi (Tommy), Laura (Mark), David (Liz), Josh (Jenna) and Christina (Matt); 16 great-grandchildren and one due next month; her sister-in-law, Bonnie LaMaide; her brother-in-law, Pat Spray; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max Sr., on June 10, 2019; a son, Dennis; her daughter-in-law, Norma LaMaide; three brothers-in-laws, Gavin LaMaide, Ray LaMaide and Leonard LaMaide; and three sisters-in-laws, Rene Hansen, Dulcie Spray and Rosemary Sell.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bill, Ed, Dale, David, Mark, Matt and Josh.
A committal service and interment will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, in the spring.
A luncheon will follow the service at the All Saints Lutheran Church fellowship hall.
