MERCER, Wis. - David Phillip Swearingen, age 77 of Mercer, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital.
Dave was born on June 15, 1946, at Grandview Hospital in Ironwood, Michigan, the son of Paul and Phyllis Swearingen. He graduated from Mercer High School and was a bartender in the Milwaukee area for many years.
Dave loved sports and excelled in basketball and baseball and was inducted to the Mercer Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his daughter, Candee DeCarlo; his sister, Mary (Ken Stienke) Swearingen; his twin brother, Darrell (Carol) Swearingen; and by many nieces, nephews and Aunt Winona Walters. He is further survived by his favorite Coach Leverson, he loved that man and they remained friends to the end.
Dave was preceded by his parents, Paul and Phyllis Swearingen; his sister, Elaine Swearingen Foote; his brother, Keith Swearingen; and son, Rick DeCarlo.
A celebration of life for Dave will be held on Saturday, March 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Great Northern banquet hall in Mercer.
