Ironwood — The Ironwood Area School Board approved Monday the hiring of Range Telecommunications to upgrade the sound system in the John Krznarich Gym for $34,313.
The project is expected to be completed before commencement and awards ceremonies this May.
“The plan is the first of May he plans to be here doing the work,” said superintendent Travis Powell. “Well before we do the awards banquets, the athletic banquet, any of the stuff that we would do in the gym.”
Additionally, the board approved two retirements. Kevin Lyons, a secondary education math teacher, and Jean Sandell, a secondary English teacher, will both be retiring effective June 5.
The board approved the 2024-2025 school calendar as presented by Powell. He said the state may be voting on some new requirements for the length of school year, with the potential of a few additional days being required, so some changes may need to be made.
In other news, the board:
—Heard Athletics Director Dan Martinson report that new division assignments will be released on April 5, and he is anticipating the school being changed from Division 4 to Division 3 for volleyball and both boys and girls basketball.
—Heard an update from the food service director Johnny Ursini. The health inspection on March 12 went well, he said, with the inspector commenting on how staff at the school do a great job with food safety and cleanliness.
