Marenisco TOWNSHIP — Members of the Marenisco Township Board of Trustees will meet on Friday evening to adopt their proposed $1.1 million budget for 2024-2025.
According to Township Supervisor Bruce Mahler, a related public hearing on Monday evening drew no opposition.
The public hearing was part of a regular board meeting.
In a Tuesday phone call, Mahler underscored the effect that inflation has had on the budget for the fiscal year starting on April 1.
“We found especially in this last year that inflation has taken a huge toll,” said Mahler. “Everything is up 20% from about three years ago.”
In other news, board members also:
—Voted to renew contracts with Roman Tauer to remain as the township’s building inspector and blight control officer.
—Approved the adoption of the Cross-Connection Control Program of Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. Mahler said the program helps to monitor cross-contamination of any intersecting waterways.
—Approved the hiring of Kevin Ceccon, a former Ironwood resident who operates Morph Design LLC in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, to update the township’s website.
—Approved himself, Township Clerk Donna Kenney and Clerk Alisha Dunbar to work toward creating a Facebook page for the township.
In Mahler’s March newsletter for township residents, he also encouraged them to support their local businesses, which experienced limited support from snowmobilers due to the mild winter.
Although board meetings normally take place on the third Monday of the month, the March meeting was scheduled out of sequence in order to address the budget process.
Friday’s meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the Marenisco Township Hall.
Mahler said that the township generally waits until the end of the fiscal year to adopt the next fiscal year budget. That way, he said that the board can amend the closing year’s budget at the same time, as needed.
