Hurley - A canvass of the April 2 election in Iron County by the county's Board of Canvass on Monday morning showed no problems, according to county officials.

Board members included interim County Clerk Christan Brandt, Deputy Clerk Kathy Brauer and Clara Maki.

Besides being the statewide presidential primary, the ballot also offered voters races for many local county, city, town and school board seats. A school bond referendum in Mercer was also on the ballot and passed 61% to 39%.

While all 15 seats for the county board were up for election, no name appeared on the ballot in District 1 - Hurley's First Ward. Former county board member Paul Mullard won the seat with five write-in votes, according to Brauer.

Hurley Mayor Joanne Bruneau and city council member Robert Lanctoe both received one write-in vote for the seat.

Typically, write-in votes aren't officially counted unless the individual filled out papers declaring themself as a write-in candidate; but since there was no formal candidate on the ballot, then the write-in votes were tabulated to declare a winner.

Brauer said Monday that Mullard is expected to attend the board's re-organizational meeting on Tuesday at 3 p.m., where he'll be sworn in with the rest of the board.
