Hurley — Two new faces joined the Hurley City Council on Tuesday as members took their oath of office from Clerk/Treasurer Stacey Wiercinski in a reorganizational meeting.
Logan Dahlbacka and Joseph Kasper were newly elected on April 2 when the following incumbents were also re-elected: Jamey Francis, Rita Franzoi, Robert Lanctoe and Stephanie Innes.
Joanne Bruneau was also re-elected as mayor.
Seven persons had run for the six at-large council seats. Former Councilman Joseph Pinardi lost his seat by getting the lowest number of votes.
After a motion made by Francis, the council also voted to elect Stephanie Innes as mayor pro tempore. She was the top vote-getter among council candidates.
Council members also:
—Voted to reappoint Ray O’Dea of Ironwood as city attorney.
—Voted to reappoint Dan Soine of Iron Belt as city building inspector.
—Voted to reappoint North Wisconsin Assessment Service of Bayfield as the city assessor.
—Voted to assign various council members and citizens to committee seats, with Lanctoe chairing the Department of Public Works Committee; Innes chairing the Finance Committee; and Francis chairing the Parks and Recreation Committee and the Police, Fire and License Committee.
—Voted to adopt Robert’s Rules of Order for the conduction of city meetings.
—Voted to reappoint Associated Bank as the city’s depository.
—Voted to reappoint the Iron County Miner as the city’s newspaper of record.
The mayor also announced a number of personnel appointments to several city authorities or other entities.
The council also voted to award the city’s generator project to Van Ert Electric of Wausau. The cost will be $18,657.
All votes were unanimous with all members present.
The council’s next regular meeting will be on May 14 at 5 p.m. in the Hurley City Hall.
