Mary Ann Anderson

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Mary Ann (Grivicich) Anderson, 99, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 12, 2024, with her daughters at her bedside.

Mary was born on March 27, 1925, in Ironwood, the youngest of seven children to Marco and Matilda (Smolich) Grivicich. She attended Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood and graduated with the class of 1943.

In 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Robert A. Anderson. They were blessed with three daughters, Diane, Paulette and Mary.

Faith and family were the values that guided Mary's life. She was a devout Catholic and a member of the Rosary Society and honor guard at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield.

Mary was known for her kindness, generosity, independence and sense of humor. She loved to cook and bake. No one ever left her house hungry. Mary cherished the yearly, week at the lake house when four generations of her family gathered together.

Mary is survived by her children, Diane (Tony) Vogel, Paulette (Ted) Bessen, Mary (Jerry) Pikka and honorary son, Michael (Cindy) Marczak; grandchildren, Chanda (Cory) Corullo, Kelly (Jay) Servis, Amy (Chris) Wallis and Kristen (Isaac) Haats; great-grandchildren, Camryn, Cayden and Courtney Corullo, Jeremiah and Summer Wallis, and Hunter, Ty and Cole Haats; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, in 1989; brothers, Steve and Nick Grivicich; and sisters, Ann Light, Katie Miklesh, Josephine Mukavitz and Matilda Bright.

A special thank you to Dr. Franklin Villanueva and Holly, Sarah, Mary and Linda from Regional Hospice for their compassion and care given to Mary and her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 8, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 407 Ascherman St. in Wakefield, with the Rev. Dominic Agyapong, celebrant. Also, in attendance will be the Immaculate Conception Women's Guild Honor Guard.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.

A luncheon will be served at the parish hall immediately upon return from the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, c/o Tri-parish office, 210 E. Iron St., Bessemer, MI 49911, will be appreciated.
