Upson, Wis. - The Weber Lake Kids Fishing event was a hit this past Saturday with around 60 kids showing up to learn how to fish, according to Joe Walker from the Superior Bass Club. The weather was overcast this year, but substantially warmer than years past, allowing for great fishing conditions and better access to the lake.
McKennen Gerbig, 9, of Hurley, was one of the kids who fished at the event, and said that he was having a lot of fun. "We haven't caught anything today," said Gerbig early into the event, "But I really want to."
Heidi Gerbig, his mom, said that he occasionally goes fishing with his relatives when they are in town, something that he really likes to do.
The Hurley School Trout Lab released the fish they had been raising in their classroom during the event as well, and had a display board set up with information about the project and some of the growth data that they collected.
Walker said that the event was something the club looked forward to every year, and that they hope to continue it for many years to come.
Volunteers from the club served food to those who had come out to fish at the pavillion.
