RONWOOD — The Ironwood Area Schools’ proposed operating millage has passed.

The non-homestead property tax rate for the school will now continue to be 18 mills, or $18 per every $1,000 of taxable valuation, and it will allow the school to continue to receive its maximum funding.

The district must ask voters to approve the tax paid by business and rental property owners every four years.

It does not impact taxes for residents who live in the home they own, according to Ironwood Superintendent Travis Powell.

The district would have lost out on $2 million just for the 2025-26 school year, which accounts for about 33% of their staff wages and benefits for the year, according to Powell.

The measure passed with 68% of the vote overall, 753-357. That included 67.1% of the votes in the City of Ironwood (469-230), 65.15% of votes in Erwin Township (43-23) and 69.86% of votes in Ironwood Township (241-104).
