Ironwood - The Friends of the Ironwood Carnegie Library spring book sale was a big hit, according to Library Director Lynne Wiercinski, with almost $2,000 being raised over the two-day event that was held at the Ironwood Memorial Building.

The sale is a tradition that is maintained year to year by the Friends of the Ironwood Carnegie Library, with members working together to sort through the mountains of donated books each year to pick out those that are in good enough condition to sell to the public at a low cost.

The set up for the sale began on Thursday, according to Friends President Carol Erickson. Erickson said that they gathered around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday to get the books moved over to the memorial building, something they did with the assistance of the ROTC students of the Luther L. Wright high school. "We were all set up by 4 p.m.," she said.

Erickson pointed out that this season there were a lot of non-fiction books, which was something that she found particularly interesting.

"It was a very good book sale," said Wiercinski on Tuesday. "We usually raise around $2,000, give or take, and this year was no different."

Looking toward the future, Wiercinski is working on putting together the summer programming schedule for the library, which she notes as being very busy this year.

"We are still continuing our senior health and wellness programs," she said. On May 28, artist Ann Marie Batiste will teach a class for adults at the library.

This year's summer theme is "Adventure begins in your library" and the library is hard at work getting all of the fun rolling.

"We are planning all sorts of adventurous programming to be held at the library," said Wiercinski, who envisions "some short hikes at Miners Memorial Park and Norrie Park, along with doing some really fun activities as far as what things you need to go on an adventure, like making things like walking sticks."

The Young Innovators, a stem program, will return this summer as well.

"I am just getting everything finalized, hopefully this week and next," said Wiercinski, "and then it will be: Ready. Set. Go Summer!"
