Ironwood --- The Ontonagon girls won the large Ironwood golf invite Wednesday, May 8 at Gogebic Country Club.
The Gladiators’ Madyson Pantti earned medalist honors with a score of 108. She led the Gladiators to a team title with Drummond finishing second.
Pantti finished fourth at U.P. Finals last year and the junior is having a strong season as Ontonagon’s top golfer with the graduation of last year’s U.P. champion, Emmy Bobula.
“She’s always been a very good golfer,” Ontonagon coach Jim Jessup said. “She just slowly has improved every year. This is her third year now, she just does better and better. She’s very committed. She’s concerned about how her swing is and she’s got some sticktoitiveness that’s very good.”
She was also medalist in Ontonagon’s nine-hole meet Friday. She shot a 46, teammate Sam Bailey a 50 and Summer Stites a 55. The Gladiators finished second at a meet in L’Anse that included bigger schools.
“The girls have done really well,” Jessup said.
The Ironwood girls finished third Wednesday and were led by Kaira Anderson’s 137.
Jeffers won the boys title and Baraga’s Cage Osterman was medalist with a 73.
Gavyn Moncher shot an 89 to lead Hurley, which finished fourth. Ontonagon’s Jerry Majurin carded a 91 as the team placed fifth. John Moos led Ironwood with a 92 and the Red Devils took eighth.
