Bessemer — The Bessemer Public Library is preparing for a summer of fun, continuing with the “Adventure Begins at your Library” theme that many have adopted this year.

Library director Melissa Lupino said that her staff has been working hard to schedule activities to draw kids into the library to have fun all summer long.

“Programs will begin Saturday, June 8,” said Lupino, “We are having our summer kick-off party, and people can come and get signed up for the reading program. We will have art projects for people to take home and we will be serving ice cream.”

The library is implementing “Monday Fun Days” in July at 3 p.m., with various forms of entertainment such as art activities alongside story time, snacks and games, all centered around the adventure theme.

The end-of-summer reading party is set for July 30 at 5 p.m. This will include food, fun and a magic show called “Touring with The Allens” by a traveling couple who perform magic shows across U.P. libraries.

“At the end of the show, we will be announcing the winners of our reading program and doing our prize drawing,” Lupino said.

The reading program is meant for all ages, and for every book that is read, people fill out a form at the library, getting a chance to win a prize at the end of summer party.

“It should be a lot of fun,” said Lupino.

In addition, the library’s book booth will be at the Ironwood Township Farmers’ Market every week starting in July, including library card sign-ups and take-home art projects for kids.

The library will be closed for the remainder of the week for spring cleaning.
