Hurley — The Hurley High School held their graduation on Saturday, as the community gathered to celebrate the students who have reached a milestone in their education.

The music at the graduation was provided by the Hurley Hight School band, choir and Silver Express, and included performances in between sections of the ceremony.

The ceremony began with a welcome by School Board President Leslie Kolesar, who spoke about the importance of paying it forward.

“Many of you know what your steps will be, but there are probably a few of you, who, like me, didn’t have any idea what to do next,” she said. She spoke about her own experiences in life, and how she was encouraged by others in her life to pursue her education, her job, and her dreams. “Kind and gentle words of encouragement can have profound outcomes.”

Following her words, the bands played selections from this year’s repertoire.

School Valedictorian Alayna King and salutatorian Kamryn Swartz both spoke about those positive impacts in their lives, thanking their loved ones who have supported them in their education all of these years.

District administrator Kevin Genisot spoke briefly to the students as well,

Following Genisot’s remarks, the high school choir and senior choir performed songs for the audience.

This year’s senior poem by senior class advisor Shannon Peterson told the stories of the class, naming something unique about each member, ranging from their determination and work ethic to their sense of humor and everything in between.

The class of 2024 was presented by Sarah Eder, the school counselor, and diplomas were handed out by Kolesar.

Following the ceremony, family, teachers and friends gathered out on the front lawn to say fond farewells.
