Bessemer — Members of the Bessemer Planning Commission unanimously approved a site plan for a proposed 8-unit apartment building targeted for Moore Street, south of the Iron Belle Trail.

A zoning permit to build has not yet been approved for the pending complex.

After a previous request from Bucknell Enterprises, Pat Coleman of North of 45 had been hired to review the Bucknell application.

After receiving Coleman’s recommendations, Chad Bucknell then made adjustments to the plan.

In other news, commissioners also unanimously approved the city’s capital improvements plan through 2030. It will be sent to the City Council as a next step.

The CIP is a multi-year planning instrument used to identify needs and financing sources for public infrastructure improvements.

City officials regard it as an essential tool for the planning and development of the social, physical and economic well-being of the community.

This particular review of the plan accounts for water, sewer, storm drainage, roads, structures, equipment, parks and recreation, the fire department and the cemetery.

Commissioners also approved a review of the city’s master plan, which has a long list of goals and strategies that were outlined in the city’s most recent master plan.

Commissioners agreed that many of those goals have been completed, or are currently being addressed. Some have yet to be started or discussed.

“We will work with city staff to continue to work on the master plan,” said commissioner Judy Palmateer.

The Planning Commission meeting that had been scheduled for July 2 is tentatively cancelled.
